So, we had no internet access all day yesterday and couldn't tell you all anything about our last day. So, here's the highlights....We went to church at Messiah's Reformed
Fellowship. It meets in lower Manhattan, near Ground Zero and was started as a ministry to the area affected by 9/11. They meet in a very interesting building in the historic old-waterfront area in a place called the Seamen's Chapel. They were tiny, but the singing was increadibly loud because of the very impressive accoustics of the place. We enjoyed them thoroughly. Apparently their pastor, Paul Murphey, knows Pastor Tuuri. This church was nearly under the Brooklyn Bridge, so after we headed over to walk out on the bridge. By Sunday, Grace was so exhausted she had a hard time summoning up enthusiasm for anything. She wanted to go see things and not miss the last day, but she mostly dragged herself everywhere in a haze. I, on the other hand, wasn't ready for everything to be over! So, she sat on a bench under the first arch while I walked about halfway across and came back for her. :)

We then took a bus to the free Staten Island ferry. This is a great way to see the Statue of Liberty if you can't actually fit a trip to Liberty and Ellis Islands into your plans. Ellis Island takes up a whole day and so was one of those things we didn't do. This way we got to go out on the river, get pictures and see Lady Liberty, without using up a whole day. After seeing the other structures of the city, Lady Liberty really doesn't seem that tall. It is impressive, though. After all of this we took our last subway ride back to our hotel, picked up our luggage and took a cab to the airport. It was so sad to leave! I think I needed at least another week. I would've loved to have gone to church and then rested the rest of Sunday and started up again on Monday. It feels like you could go out everyday with a long list of ideas and see something new or go to some part of the city that is completely different. You see someplace completely foreign and new everyday for a long time before you exhausted the possibilities of this city. Next time, because I just have to come back someday, I'll come for at least 10 days in the fall, without rain and humidity, with Christmas shopping and leaves in Central Park, and with Doug so we can see everything together. Unless of course, Doug could just find a reason to live and work in NYC for about year sometime when the kids are grown!

You wore her out! Yes, the post vacation let down is the pits. But, it passes. You did, however, spend so much time planning and preparing - what a treat for Grace!
